I earned a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory in Boston, and a Bachelor's of Music from the University of Tennessee, where I also studied vocal pedagogy - the method and practice of teaching singing.
I have performed opera and classical repertoire throughout the United States, Russia, and Europe, and have earned reviews from prominent music publications such as Opera News.
I sang long before my formal studies, and started singing lessons at twelve, so I understand how young singers learn and succeed.
Our voices are a reflection of us, our temper, character, our mental and physical well being and understanding how to work through vocal difficulties is an important life skill, not just for performers but individuals with various professions. I believe that in a safe trusting environment children flourish not just vocally but socially. Vocal hygiene leads to confidence in life.
The way I conduct my lessons is the same as they were taught to me at a post graduate and professional level.
We begin our lesson is spent working on technique, incorporating different warm-ups and exercises depending on the areas that need improvement.
The second half of our lesson is dedicated to repertoire: applying the things we work on within a particular piece of music, acting, diction, vocal production, pronunciation etc. We learn classical pieces in Italian, English, German, and Russian, but can also practice pieces students want to learn: from musical theater to pop songs.
I love learning about my students, their interests outside of music, and their goals short term and long term. We’re a team, learning together!
